Going to Milan?

Flights, trains and the long way round. Plenty of fans will route through other European cities — compare before you commit, and check baggage rules twice.

Milan is served by more than one airport, and they're not all close to the city. Check which one you're actually landing at and how you're getting in from it.

Central, near a Metro line, or cheaper and further out — all fine, as long as you know how you're getting back after a night match.

Get familiar with the Metro and tram map before you land, allow more time than you think, and check official transport updates on the day.

A short, sensible list: layers, a decent bag, chargers and something waterproof. Milan in December is colder than the holiday photos suggest.

Colours are grand, but travel comfortable. Plenty of fans go for something lower-key on the way over and change nearer the ground.

Tickets and ID kept somewhere safe, a portable battery, cash as a backup and a plan for where you're meeting people.

Away-end location, entry arrangements, bag rules and what you can take in all come from official channels.

Stand at the counter for coffee, sit down for pizza, and don't rush the evening. The Navigli area is the obvious spot for a few before or after.

A handful goes a long way: please, thank you, two beers, where's the Metro. Effort counts for more than accuracy.

Cards are widely accepted, but carry some euros as a backup. Watch the exchange rate your bank offers and choose to pay in euros when asked.

Check your roaming allowance before you fly, download maps offline, and take a power bank — a full day out will finish your battery.

The parts of the city worth an hour of your time: the Duomo, the Galleria, the Navigli bars and a proper coffee standing at the counter.
