A huge Sunderland fan zone is being organised for the Milan trip.
Black Cats of Italy are working on a dedicated fan zone expected to welcome around 8,000–10,000 Sunderland fans, with food, drinks, big screens and music/live music planned.
Entry is expected to be €3, with tickets expected to go on sale in advance once the final location is confirmed.
The final location and full details are expected in October. We’ll update this guide as soon as they’re confirmed.

Milan is a busy city and thousands of Sunderland fans will be travelling around it, particularly at night. Black Cats of Italy have advised visiting supporters to stay in groups and avoid travelling alone, especially after dark.
Keep your valuables secure, stay aware of your surroundings and stick with people you know when moving between bars, the fan zone and the stadium.
If you’ve been drinking, take extra care when making your way around the city and use reputable transport options rather than walking unfamiliar routes alone.

Getting to Milan
How are you getting there?
Start with Newcastle, then compare the whole route. Milan’s three main airports sit in different places, and the cheapest flight can stop looking clever once the Sunderland positioning journey and city transfer are added.
Newcastle and the whole route
Compare direct and connecting flights with Manchester and London options only after adding the journey from Sunderland, baggage, changes and the trip home.
Malpensa
A major airport outside central Milan. Direct rail and coach options serve the city, but check your terminal and current official onward service before travelling.
Linate
Closer to central Milan and connected to the city’s public transport network. Check ATM Milano for the current route that fits your arrival time.
Bergamo
Often sold as Milan Bergamo, but geographically outside Milan. Treat the transfer into the city as a separate leg and check the last useful service.
Late arrival
Check the official airport, Trenord and ATM information for the final service before booking. Do not assume the daytime route still works when your flight lands.

There is no single best area and no confirmed Sunderland fan base. Pick for sightseeing, nightlife, the easiest transport or access towards San Siro, then check cancellation and late-arrival terms.

Consider this area if sightseeing, a central location and the atmosphere around Milan’s main landmarks matter. It is busy and convenient, but check your route back from San Siro.

Metro, trams, buses and walking cover most visitor journeys. Use official ATM Milano information for current services, ticket rules and matchday changes.
Metro
Usually the clearest way across Milan. San Siro Stadio is on M5; M1 via Lotto may also suit some approaches. Follow the entrance and route guidance issued for your ticket.
Trams and buses
Useful beyond the Metro and for shorter hops. Event traffic can alter routes, so use ATM Milano for current information on the day.
Contactless
ATM accepts contactless cards and devices on Metro, tram and bus services. Tap correctly, including out of the Metro, and remember suburban S-line rail is separate.
Walking
The Duomo, Brera and central streets are easy to combine on foot. San Siro is west of the centre and needs a planned journey rather than a hopeful wander.

San Siro sits west of central Milan. Matchday crowds, ticket-specific entrances and current access arrangements make extra time and official information essential.
Before setting off
Charge your phone, keep ticket and ID information accessible, save the stadium address and agree a meeting point with your own group.
Getting there
M5 serves San Siro Stadio and M1 via Lotto may fit some approaches. Use the route and entrance guidance issued for your ticket, not an old screenshot.
At the stadium
Allow for crowds, queues and the walk to the correct entrance. Away-end access, ticket collection, bag rules and supporter arrangements await official confirmation.
After the match
Expect heavy demand. Check last services and a backup route before kick-off; the route that worked on arrival may not be the best route home.
